Fabian Dehi (*1978, Offenbach am Main) lives and works in Hamburg.
His paintings emerge from structured situations in which chromatic impulses, material behaviour and physical intervention determine the course of the work. Dehi works with acrylic on canvas in a
wet-in-wet technique, applying and responding to colour on horizontal surfaces. The process is governed by a deliberate tension between controlled setting and open outcome — between the initiated gesture and what the material makes of it. In recent work, this tension has shifted: rather than resolving formal contradictions, Dehi allows them to persist. The painting becomes a space in which competing states coexist without reconciliation.
His practice is situated within the field of gestural abstraction and process-based painting, engaging with questions of chromatic intensity, material agency and compositional openness.
